"What You Believe Does Matter"

How ironic that the place where Christianity was fostered for the United States is now known for being the least religious area in the country. In fact, the Northeast quarter of North America is the most populated region of this continent. With over 60,000,000 people, the diversity of cultures, economics and lands make it also among the most complex. The challenges are great, but God is greater.

Recent statistics suggest that the religious preference growing in this region is agnosticism or atheism. Although an agnostic or atheist may suggest that they are "a-religious", or in other words, religion neutral - that can not be further from the truth. Every man and woman upon this planet has a religion in which they follow. Whether atheist, Buddhist or Christian, people govern their part of the world by views they each hold. Thus, the world view, or "God view" influences every one by establishing a system of beliefs by which people operate their lives.

A person who accepts that there is no God must then see a world in which all there is to live for is the "here-and-now." This view would exclude any acceptance that an eternal judgment awaits them. This view leads a person into self-centered consumption ("Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die" is a famed quote that best expresses this way of life). It is interesting to me that in a day when many are turning away from God, alcoholism, drug abuse, violence, etc. have been on the rise.

Other views of God vary in their religious dogmas. Some may hold to the lie "To each their own," as though any belief system will due. The problem with that line of thinking is that the Adolf Hitlers and Saddam Husseins of the world do not seem to fit the scenario of pearly gates and angel wings.

So what we believe does matter. It not only influences the present reality, but impacts our future life - including an eternal life as well. The question is "What is truth, and where can it be found?

The Bible has answers -- give us a call. Better yet? Come by and see us!
